| August 03, 2006: Go Ahead, London pt. trois Hello, bonjour, and a huge thanks to everyone who has been encouraging me in my guestbook - if you haven't been here recently, hit the rewind a couple of times to see what's what. So then...I was downtown on Monday to gawk at the massive crane on Victoria north of Dundas (the uglification of Dundas Square continues) as I walked with my mom to the nice new building (where CJRT used to be when I was at Ryerson) to help her out - then down to the dungeon as she picked out clothes for a big Vintage sale/aucton this fall to benefit ACT II. I always think I don't like rhinestone jewelry, and I don't, but the good stuff is beautiful and the colors, done right, are amazing...but (and I feel rather self-conscious about jewelry now) I would rather have something real... ...and after making a frittata for dinner (note to self: less pepper, more potato) I went home to see someone reading The Bell Jar just ahead of me! I took that as a sign to start thinking about my essay, then realized that I am still not sure what to write, so I will wait for the list of categories from Oxford and I am sure I will have something to say - a big, complex endnote-requiring essay something to say - pretty quickly. Tuesday was just very very hot. My period made it worse, and I got home and showered and did nothing in the relative cool of my basement apartment, not opening the window (I at least had the foresight to shut it before I left) until sunset. The family didn't turn on the air conditioning, so yay us and despite the threat of brownouts and voltage reduction, the grid held on. In fact, as far as I know, the grid held on everywhere, which is nice... My trip to London is that much closer today, and my PR card uncertainties cleared up quite a bit - on Monday I faxed off some info to get a temporary card, and they called the next day to tell me that I have a "big big big chance" of getting my actual card (avec dreadful photo) on time. Other than that, it's all my mom bugging me to see the doctor (I have to make an appointment, I should have done that on Hot Tuesday but was too out of it to be bothered). And there's luggage to find, cleaning, more shopping, etc. My compulsion to buy music is as relentless as ever, but besides one small ebay purchase (yeah, I know) I have successfully resisted, telling myself that the shops I'm going to are much better and they aren't going to play Nickleback as I am trying to remember, helplessly, what it is that I want... So - one more long weekend and the race is on; once I have my card my panics will cease and I can start relaxing, as much as someone who is kind of nervous when flying can relax...
